# Collision coverage

> What collision coverage is on an auto policy, how it pays to repair or replace your vehicle after a crash regardless of fault, and how the deductible applies.

**Collision coverage** pays to repair or replace your vehicle when you hit another vehicle or object, regardless of fault. Lenders typically require it; it is optional once a car is paid off.

Paired with comprehensive, the two are often called **full coverage** — though that phrase is not a technical policy type.
