# Loss of use

> What loss of use coverage (Coverage D / ALE) on a homeowners policy pays for, including hotel, rental, and food costs while your home is being repaired.

**Loss of use** coverage (also called additional living expenses) pays temporary housing and related costs when your home is uninhabitable after a covered claim.

On renters insurance, loss of use can pay for a hotel while your apartment is repaired.
