# Personal injury protection (PIP)

> What personal injury protection (PIP) coverage on an auto policy pays for, why it applies regardless of fault, and why Minnesota requires PIP.

**Personal injury protection (PIP)** pays your medical bills and lost wages after an accident, regardless of fault, up to policy limits. Minnesota requires PIP on auto policies.

State minimums are often insufficient for serious injuries. Review limits with a licensed agent.
